honestly im not sure if the sand will still protect him or not, but it WAS NOT his moms doing. If u pay attention to the episode that showed flashbacks of Gaara's past [cant think of the exact episode at the moment, but im sure u know wich one im talking about], hiz uncle DOES SAY that his mom's will to protect him was in the sand. BUT he was lying. because when he was talking to Gaara after Gaara used his sand coffin, he said that he hated Gaara AND THAT GAARA'S MOM HATED GAARA TOO.
anyway i agree with u that Gaara is awsome. He's my favorire character :D

It doesnt matter if the demon is gone or not the sand will always protect gaara it was his moms doing...yeah he wont be able to like use as much chakra as he could before but who care gaara is awesome!!!!

there things that we have to observe...
1. since gaara has no absolute defense, it will be lot of better if he acquire the Third Hazekage Sand Technique. (how i wish it was going to happen) hence that the Third Hazrkage is Gaara's father, there is nothing wrong in acquiring that Sand Steel.
2. Sai, showed up, that fake smile... of course it reminds us the same fake smile that Sujeruo from Samurai X.
3. Lee, is also a suprising character. hahahahaha...!!! this makes me laugh for an hour.

I think Garaa will still be able to use the sand (with a bit more effort maybe) but he wont be able to use the absolute defense. So i think he will still be a complete BAMF, he wont be quite the same...
