yea You'll need a little bit of practice, for like a couple of hours, just mess around, look up some tutorials on google or deviantart (.com of course XD) but yes the requests can definitely be used as practice!
and try downloading some new brushes (Deviantart usually has really good ones, just type in Photoshop Cs(whatever one you have) in and download the ones you want...)
