I hope this comes along great. It's basically a chance for absolute creative control. =D
The year is unknown in the place that our story begins. Different people arrived at many different years, and only the few who chose to count even know how long they've been there. After all, eternity isn't something that's very fun to count, and unless you're counting the minutes in your head, it's hard to tell when day or night pass.
Of course, some people have nothing to do but sit in a corner and count time pass by.
Where could this place be, exactly?
Nobody really knows where it is, though they do know how to get there.
You, my friend, are in hell.
Contrary to popular belief, the road to hell isn't made by committing crimes or being a bad person, there are actually very few people who live in hell compared to what was expected, the only way to get there is to make a deal with Satan, Mephistopheles, Lucifer, Beelzebub, whatever you want to call him, it's the same person anyways.
Many people are stuck by temptation every day of their lives, but sometimes the temptation becomes too much, and the humans usually say they'd do anything to get what they want.
That's when a husky whisper can be heard from every direction.
"Anything?" It asks them.
And they agree to give away their soul for their desire. Some people it was as simple as giving them a decent meal, others desired the death of someone else, or they wished to satisfy their carnal needs. One way or another, once the desire for something came about, it was easy for Lucifer to get into their minds for a little... trade.
Now hell is quite different from what people believe.
It CAN be nothing but a burning inferno...
But it can actually be
anything
While in hell, you can chose to stay int he "home" you are given, a small cell with millions of cages around, screaming and growling of beasts from every corner, it's hard to find peace, but some would prefer that over the second option
The second, is you can chose to roam the vast, and most likely endless world that is the underworld.
The place and setting often changes, actually, sometimes you could find yourself in the deserts of Egypt, or on top of the empire state building, only the difference is, there's never any peace, something's always after you, you're
constantly being attacked by illusions and beasts there just to make you suffer, just to hear you scream out and beg for death, knowing death can no longer come to you.
Once every thousand years, the King of Hell chooses a group of people who he will so graciously give the gift of life again granted they can do one thing. They have a month, a large hourglass marking the time exactly, to survive roaming hell, only they can't do one thing: They cannot scream.
One might say it sounds easy, but it's not, not when you have someone cutting at your limbs and pulling out your insides, and you can feel everything, but it won't kill you.
And although he usually never... tends to the people in his domain, during this event he is usually the one to personally torment this group of people.
They are given a chance to fight back.
They are given a choice of a certain sort of supernatural power at the start of the event, they can choose to be a shape-shifter, someone who is capable of casting magic, or anything they can think of. They are also given the choice to have a companion in case they can't find the others, this companion is generally a demon with similar appearances to an animal from Earth.
Lucifer... he never really loses the game. People have actually made it out, but the fun part is watching how they survive in the real world. Some of them were born hundreds of years before the present day, and some of them will be completely broken, and psychotic. Even if he loses, he doesn't lose.
They can do anything and go anywhere, there is no limit to his domain, only the reminder that sometimes you might get lucky and avoid chaos or torture for a few days, and sometimes it takes weeks before you can get away.

You can do anything with it, really, so if you get bored of running from demons in a forest, you can switch to fighting an evil version of yourself on top of a pyramid, or you can end up fighting you allies thinking they're enemies.
