Rap is kewl and hip hop is def
rap is more of a thugish aproach to poetry
hip hop is truly an art form
i was raised in a very ruf neighborhood and im 26 so im pretty mucha scholar at rap and hiphop i even got my own crew and my name speaks volumesin my cities underground circut

however its an art that has seen its better days

rock and alternative rock and other forms of the music genre is realy crushing the life from the art. Alot of the art of rap was honestly based on a sterotype that only minorites will understand the message. Labeling it as a culture biased tool of expresion realy killed its momentum in the early 2000's. Since more and more people seem to have a knack for rhyming anyone can succede now.

Hip hop and rap are two seperate forms kinda like metal and rock
hip hop is dying and rap is holding the murder weapon

Rap is the music.
and Hip-hop is the whole culture.

And both are alive.

Thats debatable. Its kinda like saying incubus is the same as ac/dc

I like both genres but its not as motivated by new artist as hip hop or rap was.
Cmon at least agree that supa soak that whoa...is at least disgracefull to what run dmc (tru hip hop) or common stand for

But rap and hip-hop aren't different genres. lol

Rap is the music, and hip-hop is the music, culture, artists, clothes, etc.

Now genres they have

Rap
Gangsta Rap
Alternative Rap(I guess people with a slight mild rock sound like lupe or kanye's stuff)
Also known as backback rap

But rap in itself isn't really seperated genre wise, rock is.

there's heavy metal(eww), punk rock, regular rock, old school rock/soft rock, etc.
