1) Be sure do read everything in your text books- Professors generally only cover the basic material during lecture, so reading and understanding your text is a must if you want to score higher on exams.
2) Learn to time manage- I know it can be tough. It is for me, seeing how you need to go to class far less often than in high school. So it can be a lot easier to become lazy and procrastinate on things. Scheduling a two or three hour period each day where you can just focus on school is something I would definitely recommend. 3) Don't take homework assignments lightly- I know you get used to cranking them out and handing them in during high school, but with college it's really useful to take the extra time to understand assigned problems, seeing how a lot of that same material will appear on exams. 4) Be sure to take the practice exams- A lot of the classes I've been in have had exams from the previous semester that you can print off and take. The professors generally use these as a guideline when writing their own personal exams, so mastering the material covered in the practice exams will leave you well on your way towards doing well on the actual exam. 5) Be sure to have fun, but not too much fun - College life has been amazing so far for me, and I'm sure it will be some of the best years of my life and probably yours too. I go to party school USA (Univ Wisc- Madison) and basically it gets real easy to forget the real reason why you're there in the first place. So be sure to keep your priorities straight. Hopefully you'll take these tips to heart, because they'll definitely come in handy ![]() |

Well, be smart. Start out by going to community college first to get your primary classes out of the way. It's a lot cheaper so it saves you and your family money. I'd also suggest staying in state for the same reason. Instate tuition is a lot cheaper than heading out of state.
If your school system is like mine, then they may have what's called a 60/60 program where you can transfer and credits you've earned in community college to other colleges around the state, and sometimes with some schools that are out of state. Let's see what else... Of course, get scholarships if you can. Sign up for as many as you ca even if you don't think you have a chance in hell to get it. Like they say, many scholarships are not tapped into at all because people don't know about them. Look for those ones. As for anything else, to me, college is just like high school, except you have to write more and you have to pay for it. But it's the same to me other than that... Oh and if you can choose what time you can take your classes, I'd suggest night time classes. They work well for me so I enjoy them, especially since I hate waking up. (I'm more of a night owl) Also, I love night time classes because of the people who share the same class as me. They're usually the older crowd (if you go to community college) and seem to be a lot more knowledgeable in some areas that could help you out with other classes you could be taking. Not to mention, if you like talking, most of them are good at conversations that require a bit of thinking. And they tend to be more friendly than someone of your own age. That's what works for me anyway. Each person is different... |

And hey, if you want to draw for a living, then by all means, keep drawing. I mean, you could go to an art school or whatever. If you haven't been to the campus yet, or even if you have, you should walk around it and locate the classes that way you won't get lost on your first days. Look for clubs or activities that interest you. If you find something you like, sign up for it because it may only have a set number of people that can join. That's all I can think of right now... |
