I think that this question is very debatable.

Technically, Light only writes some names in a note book and we all know that a person does not lose his or her life in this way. Thinking in this way, Light is not a criminal. But, because he knows the power of the note book, he can be considered a criminal.

So, I am asking you: is or not Light a criminal?

The Deathnote is a weapon no matter how you look at it. By a technical standpoint no matter how you look at it, Light's a criminal. He knew what would happen to people when he wrote a name, therefor he knew that HE was killing them. (I believe he even said on mutipule occasions that he was killing) There was also the eluding of the force. Why would you run if your not a criminal?

Truthfully I think people believe Light to not be a criminal just because he was the protaginist. We saw all of his views from start to finish. Now, had it had all been about L or Near, (I guess mello to) then all we would have seen was a teenager killing people while saying, "I AM A GOD!" Last time I checked, that classified as insain.

Of course Light is a criminal...there's nowhere around it ._. Killing criminals doesnt make you a good guy, you're as low as the ones you killed, and yeah I agree with all Vile said

I Believe that everyone here iz missing the point. We can't accuse Light of being a full fledged criminal because at the beginning his intentions were good. You can't really blame him from wanting to destroy the worlds criminals because to be honest I think that anyone would. I do have to argue that the book did consume him into evil, but his original intentions were to bring peace. And so what if he ends up killing them? Did God not flood the Earth to rid of the sins and criminals present at the time? So we gotta look at this on both sides. Light can be considered a criminal to some extent, but its not right to accuse him in such a manor IMHO.

True, but put yourself in his position. Lets say somebody kills someone who is very close to you. If you had such a book, you wouldn't consider killing them? Honestly. I'm pretty sure power can cloud your judgment fairly quickly.

i just know that if he kills he is a criminal no matter what reasons he had as long as he take the law with his hands and kills people. . his a criminal thats my opinion. .

Umm
1. A weapon like that wouldn't be "real" in our world
2. No matter what of how you say it light is a criminal.
3. No one that was close to Light was killed, so even the example you give is not good.
4.Light is obviously insane! He practically laughs each time he kills someone. That makes me think he is not inncent at all. It has criminal written all over it!

1) I never said a weapon like that existed. It is quite obvious that it wouldn't exist in our world or any world. Remember that your little anime world is fiction
2) I still don't think that killing a criminal is that horrible. If it were possible to go back in time and killing Hitler or the people responsible for the 9/11 attacks I would if it meant saving countless innocent victims.
3) Hmmmm I recall some chick that Light liked getting killed at the museum (something like that) was Naomi her name...my memory is a bit fuzzy.
