I was talking with Megzy of the posibility of starting this competition

Avatars are fairly easy to make, since they arent complicated and small.

avies are versatile mostly in shape and borders...like this:

I think that this would be a good idea, because they are a bit easier to make than sigs or wallpapers or something of that sort. And sometimes all you need is a stock image and a few brushes and text :3.

It'll encourage those who are just starting, or interested in starting GFX to join and it'll be fun x3 :3 I'm all for it!

I think Avatar of the Month is a great idea. Avatars are a good way for newer GFXers, but I also feel that they can be a fun for the more experienced people as well.
