How did you get 6.0? The most recent updates for XP is 2.1:

Vista, it's at 2.6:

Download details: Windows Movie Maker 2.6

Get the most recent one, it should solve the problem. I have been using both versions in two of my cpus, no issues so far.

Seems like you're not alone with issues on 6.0. There are a few options that may have caused it and two solutions.

1. Uninstall certain progs: SteveX Compiled » Blog Archive » Windows Movie Maker Crash Solution

2. Downgrade to a less buggy version 2.6:
Windows Movie Maker 6 Crashes - Tech Support Guy Forums

ok first off when you download the video i believe you still have it in torrent form not video form so you ahve to go download either UTorrent or BitTorrent to convert it back to video.
