No you don't need to know 1000 jutsus. You're probably thinking about the 3rd Hokage and how he knew so many jusus but that's why he was nicknamed the professor. Shikamaru is smart enough to become Hokage but he's the same age as Naruto and if anyone will become Hokage before Naruto it would be Kakashi. Plus Shikamaru is still kind of complacent even though he has changed a little.

If there was a time gap which I think there will be it would be in 3 possible ways, one being after Naruto beats Pein, 2nd being after all this Akakutsi business if over with, and lastly maybe really shortly after Pein comes to the Leaf Village and finds Naruto not there while Naruto trains for a while. It would be sweet to see the second one and then after that maybe a great ninja war or something. That would make my day.

Assuming that Tsunade remains hokage for another 10 years or so, I think Naruto will become hokage.

If she dies or something, then I have no idea. My friend keeps saying that Kakashi will be hokage, but isn't he too lazy to be hokage? =P
