I think summon technique is different then ninjutsu as a whole?

If I remember correctly, Gai is not talented neither when he was younger that's why he likes Rock Lee.

I think what makes Naruto so interesting is that they have so many diverse characters, of whom so many (not all like Sai) are likable.

Gai isn't one of my favourite characters but I do agree he livens up the atmosphere sometimes, and Neji and Ten Ten will give him the wtf expression.
