[Izaya Orihara]

With all the fights that have been proposed between captains and espada I was wondering what we all thought about a match up between two of Ichigo's companions. Originally I was going to ask about Uryu vs. Chad but in the end that seemed unfair since we never really see Chad's full potential due to lack of screen time and just plain getting owned. So I thought this was the next best thing.

In this corner:

Rukia Kuchiki, member of the 13th Guard Squad and wielder of the ice zanpakuto Sode no Shirayuki. While at first totally powerless she got her abilities back and showed us that not only does she know how to use a sword but can also use plenty of kidos to boot. Though she wasn't a match for a one-armed Grimmjow we still saw her kill the 9th Espada.

And in the other corner:

Uryu Ishida, proud Quincy and frenemy of Ichigo Kurosaki. Originally as powerful as Ichigo was before receiving his Zangetsu, Uryu has risen through the ranks of anime side characters and has really come into his own. His bow can fire over 1,000 shots per second and that's just impressive. He's a fast one too so we know he fits the archer class well. He hasn't killed an espada to date but he did hold his own against Szayel and even managed to fend off Ulquiorra for a while and lost a hand in the process, though he did get it back. (Freaking Ishida's hand!)

So I submit this match up to you all, do we give the match to Rukia or does the honor of the Quincy triumph here?

I think ability-wise Rukia has the upper hand, but Ishida just strikes me as a more tactical fighter. We saw him take down that lady... I forget what they're called... they are previous espada or something like that... anyways he pwned her with minimal help from that other spit wad dude. Rukia doesn't really seem to utilize strategy as much... I believe that she mostly just makes use of her wide range of kidous, and finishes off with her powerful ice sword. So in a fight, I think Ishida would be able to find a way to defeat Rukia, despite her being more powerful.

Oh riiiight he did beat Cirruci (I guess that's how you spell it? Oh well she died so I don't care xD) that's a good point. I didn't really bother to put in my two cents about the fight when I made the thread but I figure Uryu would win basically the way you described it. Rukia also seems to take advantage of any sort of luck she can get. Grimmjow was distracted so she froze him, but then he broke out and nearly cero'd her face off. Then with the 9th Espada she basically got lucky since he was too cocky and let her stab him in the head. Uryu on the other hand always has these knock-down drag out fights with people like Mayuri and countless other shinigamis. That isn't to say that Rukia isn't powerful, she just doesn't really use strategy and manages to get lucky at times.

Uryu even has a penchant for setting traps as we've seen in his fights with Szayel and then again when he outsmarted Yammy. So not only is he good at fighting but he's also pretty decent at using an enemy's distracted attention to his advantage.

I wish I would've thought more before I voted... I agree that Uryu would win because he is extremely intelligent when he battles. Even though its annoy when he fights because he has to talk during the whole fight explaining why he did every move he did, even the most obvious.

yeah i kinda wish i thought about it too lol but still its rukia!! shes probably the luckiest one so she would somehow prevail at the end
