I think it doesn't really matter whether you call it an anime or not..
and I really like both Avatar and Naruto, but in different ways, it's hard to compare them..

Default The problem with Avatar
yeah your right, Avatar does take forever to release the next episode. But this is America's first time making a anime type show and i think there doing a pretty good job with it. I mean i love the story line. Its pretty good! I think that when there done with Avatar, that the next show they decide to make will be even greater because they can learn form there mistakes they made in this show.
