Ergo Proxy
I just completed this rather short series (23 episodes) today, and have to say I very much enjoyed it. With that said, I would not recommend it unless you enjoy media that makes you think.
Ergo Proxy is VERY philosophically driven. It is a society-driven science-fiction story (as opposed to a technology-driven) in a post-apocalyptic world trying to be rebuilt. The plot is somewhat difficult to explain, given how psychologically and thematically based it is, so the best I can do is give the setting: The society of the city Romdo is alleged to be a Utopia, with the only problems being an occasional Autorave (Android) gaining self-awareness by becoming "infected" with a virus... but this isn't about robots going AWOL. The main character is trying to investigate a mysterious being known as a Proxy, and its role in this Utopian world... In terms of animation, the series is superb (blending Anime styles with CGI graphics for a more "realistic" world). Voice acting was ok in the dubs. (I watched the first couple with subtitles, but found the dubs to be easier to follow, if maybe a little wooden at parts). Anyways, with that said... if you like food for thought in a well-done series, I can safely bet you'd like Ergo Proxy.
