This episode, though expected (what kind of writer could resist and ending like this one?), was entirely bogus. You're saying that Light, a strategical genius (as proven in the first 25 episodes), can't figure out that the death note "Sakujo" has is a fake? Wow, that was completely apocryphal and inconsistent with his character.
Light won, face it. That Near + Mello = L thing was a bit corny too, considering Mello didn't have anything to do with anything.
The series ended at episode 25, or at least stopped being good.
