I work with computers, and I read in some thread that you are planning to study that too.
Here's an advice from me to you. Use format as a completely last option...
Second, 80% is pretty much all of them (and I can guarantee that I always remove 100%).
Those that are hardly removable are not pop ups, trust me, they are much worse...

If you do like to format it, jsut transfer what ever you have on your C drive to
your D drive, then format C with a new install of windows and problem's gone.
(Of course scan it again)

And being in safe mode get's them because they aren't executed(lunched, started)
so the program(anti-virus) can access them easily...
And as for registry editing, it's not needed, there are programs that repair
and remove broken registries for you...
